THE horse that was runner-up in the Britannia English Summer National at Uttoxeter Racecourse last month is targeting another big prize this weekend. Brooklyn Brownie ran a great race here in our feature event of the summer and was beaten by only a head by the winner Ouzbeck - and now goes for the Summer Plate at Market Rasen Racecourse in Lincolnshire on Saturday. The same jockey, James Halliday, has been booked to ride the Yorkshire-trained racehorse which ran in the Grand National last year. At Uttoxeter Racecourse, we'll be following the horse's prospects with interest. Second summer garden party at the races Next week sees the second of our summer garden party racing fixtures at Uttoxeter Racecourse. It's a fine time to enjoy an afternoon glass of Pimm's with some strawberries. The first race on Thursday 22 July is at 2pm. On Monday 26 July, the racecourse's ‘Summer Nights' series concludes when the ‘The King of Rock and Roll' provides a fabulous evening of entertainment in the Elvis tribute band when racing finishes. The racecourse takes a break from racing in August. We resume on Wednesday 8 September. Charlie becomes a media star After my reference in this column last week to Uttoxeter's Clerk of the Course Charlie Moore being praised by jockeys as one of the best in Britain, he was inundated with interest from the media. Charlie enjoys chatting on radio and TV, and always offers helpful information to punters. Admission Premier Enclosure £21 (online £19 at www.uttoxeter-racecourse.co.uk); Grandstand & Paddock £17 (online £15); Centre Course £8. Seniors concession - available only on the day - £3 into Premier and Grandstand & Paddock. Children under 16 enter free when accompanied by an adult. Car parking is free. More information is available on the racecourse's website www.uttoxeter-racecourse.co.uk. Tickets can be purchased online, in person at the racecourse, or by telephoning the racecourse on 01889 562561. David MacDonald is General Manager of Uttoxeter Racecourse
